Below is a list of the trips AMIGOS Eye Care has planned for the current Academic Year.
It is the goal of AMIGOS Eye Care to return to the same sites year after year, providing eye care and building relationships, until a self-sustaining presence can be established.
Costa Rica
Trip Information:
Dates: Winter 2024
Team Size: 7
Details:
This December, AMIGOS Eye Care will be working with the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation (Fundación Humanitaria Costarricense). This service trip will be the 13th mission sending Amigos members to serve communities in Costa Rica and our fourth time working with CRHF since 2019. A team of 7 optometry students, 7 doctors, and 5 volunteers will be serving the community of La Carpio in San Jose, comprised of over 35,000 Nicaraguan refugees that have been displaced due to civil war, natural disasters, and poverty that resulted in severe food scarcity. We are estimating seeing approximately 600-700 patients, providing them with complete eye health exams and glasses.

A gift of any amount will help cover expenses related to travel, lodging, food, and equipment for our team of dedicated optometry students. Providing vision care for an underserved population is a very fulfilling endeavor and the gratitude shown by the people in need goes much beyond words. We thank you kindly for your consideration and appreciate your contribution to our efforts. A tax-deductible receipt can be sent after donation upon request.

Vietnam
Trip Information:
Dates: Spring 2025
Team Size: 11
Details:
This coming March, AMIGOS Eye Care will be working with Hanoi Medical University (HMU) to provide eye care to locals in northern Vietnam. We will be visiting a number of schools to conduct vision screenings for over 1,000 students. Through these screenings, we aim to address and treat any visual concerns that may impact a child’s development and/or learning abilities. It is crucial to screen children for any visual impairments as early as possible to ensure a brighter future for the youth. Our team will also be collaborating with the medical students at HMU to promote cross-cultural, interdisciplinary learning.
